Princess Knight 3

3 – Princess Knight and Biological Weapons

Inside the camper, in a six-tatami mat Japanese-style room.

Naoto is standing on a tatami mat and staring at the 5-inch LCD control panel embedded in the wall.

Various graphs and numbers are displayed on the screen. It's also an option he added to manage the system for the entire camper.

In addition to the amount of gasoline, electricity, and water left in the tank, it also shows the current status of the solar power system, the temperature and humidity inside and outside, and even the air pressure.

Among the various numbers, only the amount of electricity and water was decreasing at a high pace.

This was because Fire was now using the shower.

One of the options that I was particularly particular about in this camper...... Patricia was the shower function with a large capacity tank and a high performance boiler, which allows you to take a shower with almost the same feeling as in a normal building.

I gave the first shower to Sophia, and in a way I thought it was a good idea.

In a way, I thought it was a good thing, because I was able to see the control panel while it was in use, which I normally would not have been able to do myself.

Naoto confirmed that the whole system was working, but he found two items that were giving him errors.

The GPS and the current status of the network.

The GPS showed Not Found, and the network showed no signal.

It was an error, but considering the current situation, it could be said that the system was functioning normally.

“I wonder if it's because we're in a different world…”

I mumbled, and this time I saw a functioning barometer.

“The air pressure is 950 - that's about 500 meters above sea level. If the common sense of the original world prevails.”

I continued to stare at the monitor, doing some rough calculations in my head.

Suddenly, I was slightly surprised to see that the water level was already less than half.

The cause was, of course, the shower that Sophia was using.

“…gulp.”

His throat squeaked unintentionally.

The panel was on the driver's side, and the shower stall was at the rear of the vehicle.

He had been trying to distract himself from the "shower" by staring at it for a while now.

However, the extremely low number on the panel eventually reminded him of it.

He glanced behind him.

In front of the shower room, a changing basket. He found Sophia's undressing clothes and armour there, which made him clear his throat again.

“If”

“--!”

The sound of the water stopped and he could hear Sophia's cold voice inside.

I felt as if my heart had been grabbed by her voice.

“You know what’ll happen if… you peek.”

“No, I wouldn't. I'm known as an herbivore in the company.”

“I don't know what that means, but okay.”

After saying that, he heard the sound of the shower again.

Naoto hurriedly opened the door and stepped out of the camper.

It was still a bit chilly outside the camper, where the monitor said the temperature was 15 degrees Celsius, but that was a good thing.

He stood there for a while, and his head began to cool down.

Calmly, he rubbed his hands and circled the camper.

There were trees, grass, and various other plants around.

Most of them were things he had never seen before and he wondered if they were plants from another world, but unlike machines, the only plants he could recognize at a glance were the dandelions he had played with so much as a child.

“It would be easier to understand if there were trees with legs that could walk, or flowers with sloppy tentacles.”

He mumbled about the impressions he had of otherworldly plants in his head.

He sighed lightly, wishing he could be that penetrating.

“Really, where am I?”

He looked up at the sunset sky in solitude.

Passing through the tunnel, he found himself in a different world - a situation that was too far-fetched for his grandfather to have hit him while running from the grave.

Naturally, his common sense tried to deny it, but then he remembered the orc he had seen earlier.

A strange creature with a pig's head and a body that looks like a sumo wrestler, for better or worse.

The picture I once saw of a kangaroo made me think, "A real beastman!” But the orc looked more like a strange, realistic beast than that.

Above all, it was the reaction.

“It’s not a costume… it would be great if I could ogoogo like them when I’m about to be hit by a bus.”

He chuckled, remembering the moment.

Looking for a little more information to determine if it was another world, he decided to widen his search a little more.

“koon”

This time, unlike the unfamiliar plant, he heard a familiar type of cry. One that he knew at once to be that of a dog.

“Next to the pig man, is it a dog-eared girl?”

Having misplaced expectations, he headed in the direction of the voice.

It was not the humanoid dog he was expecting to see, but a puppy that looked much like an ordinary Shiba Inu.

The puppy was surrounded by monsters.

Yes, monsters.

“I have to help”

He didn't know what would happen if he was cornered, but he didn't want to find out by looking into the frightened eyes of the puppy.

Naoto picked up a piece of wood that was lying at his feet and held it at the ready.

“Wait.”

A dignified voice stopped him from behind as he was about to jump out for the puppy.

"Sophia!”

He turned around to see Sophia standing there in her armour, who was supposedly taking a shower.

“I’ll do it.”

With that, she passed Naoto and took a step forward.

Naoto was instantly relieved. He was relieved to see the dignified figure of the princess knight rather than a piece of stick in his hand.

The slimes, on the other hand, stopped moving at once when Sophia appeared. After a pause for breath, they all came towards Sophia.

Not Naoto, but clearly towards Sophia.

“I knew you'd come to me. You who have broken the providence as a race."

Naoto wondered what she meant.

Immediately after, the colour of her hair changed. It changed from the same quietly shining silver to a fiery red, just as it had been when she shot her flame magic a moment ago.

She spread her legs shoulder-width apart and held out her right hand. The sparks of fire quickly became concentrated.

The fire magic that she unleashed wiped out the slime.

“Oh, wow.”

Naoto was impressed by her fire magic that instantly wiped out the horde of slimes and he started clapping unintentionally.

He had almost gotten the idea that she might be a bad person, but she was indeed a princess knight.

Not knowing that she had raised her stock, Sophia peeled the puppy off and gave it a hand.

“Now, it’s okay-”

While talking, the puppy made a scared noise and ran away.

The scared puppy and the burning haired Sophia.

“It must’ve been scared…”

Naoto murmured after comparing the two.

It's not uncommon for a person to save someone, only to overdo it and have the person they saved be disappointed.

Sophia, who had been run over by the puppy, froze with her hand out. Her beautiful hair had turned back to silver, which made her look sad.

Eventually, her hand drooped helplessly, and her shoulders slumped.

“Well, don't worry about it.”

“I don’t care.”

Comforting her, Sophia made a grim expression. He wasn’t sure if it was a good idea or not.

She returns to the camper with the expression of a dignified princess knight.

He felt sorry for her looking at her stubborn back.

He decided to comfort her.

He catches up from behind and calls out.

“You want some tea?”

“Tea?”

“Yeah, since we’re here, let’s drink on the porch.”

“Engawa?”

[TN: He says porch (engawa - 縁側) but she retorts in katakana (エンガワ) which is used for foreign words]

She tilted her head and parroted back with a flat pronunciation.

It was similar to the time with the kotatsu, so he knew that it was something she didn’t know.

When Naoto returned to the camper, he went around to the rear of the vehicle and opened the door instead of the side entrance.

It was a custom-made porch, not one of the factory options.

After comparing the porch with the sky once, he got into the driver's seat and moved the car to change the direction of the vehicle.

He turned the back of the car - the porch - toward the setting sun.

“This thing can move?”

Sophia was surprised to see the camper in motion for the first time, but that was not important now.

The setting sun was shining over the porch. He was satisfied with the sight.

"Naoto?"

"You sit there and wait a bit."

"Here?"

"Yes, wait a minute."

After checking the princess knight sitting at the edge of the sunset, Naoto went inside, boiled water in the kitchen space and filled a teacup with green tea from a pack. He returned to the porch with it and handed it to a doubtful Sophia.

“Here you go.”

“Is this… a letter?”

“Hmm? Oh, that's the one on the teacup. It's called the sushi script*.”

“Sushi script?”

“That's not important. Why don't you have a cup of tea here? You know tea, right?”

“Tea, well, I drink a lot of tea…”

Sophia hesitated for a moment, then took an elegant sip of her tea.

Naoto wanted her to drink with a slurp, but he gave up, it was like serving ramen to westerners who were used to eating pasta.

“Ah…”

A breath leaked out of Sophia's mouth.

Seeing the effect, Naoto decided to follow up with another attack.

This time, he took out a glass wind chime that he bought at a home improvement store and installed it on the porch.

Just then, the wind blew. It made a beautiful sound.

“Howa…”

The princess knight in armor went hoge.

The sunset-tinted porch, hot Japanese tea, and the sound of wind chimes.

Three combos that create a synergy.

For the Princess Knight, it was as good as overkill, and she had lost all of her previous bravado.

"Fu"

"--Huh!"

Sophia came back to her senses. She turned red and glared at Naoto, who was smiling at her.

“Yo-you bastard, you used some strange magic again, didn’t you?”

“Space Magic perhaps”

“Damn you, you sneaky bastard.”

“By the way, it's not over yet. I'll tell you what, it's not going to be like this yet. This veranda will be in its prime come summer.”

“What-”

Sophia was speechless. She must have imagined what it would be like in the summer after what she had just experienced.

As in the case of the kotatsu, her reaction was so funny that he wanted to tease her.

“Kuku, I can't wait to see what happens then.”

“Damn… I can't stay here!”

Putting the teacup on the porch, he got up to leave.

“Kuuu-”

He tried to stop her, but before he could, a familiar cry interrupted him.

He turned to look at the voice and saw the puppy from earlier peeking out from behind a tree, looking at him.

“That's the puppy from before, he's back.”

“Oh, it's coming over here.”

The puppy, which looked like a Shiba Inu, walked past Sophia and climbed up to the porch. He was small and struggled, but managed to climb on his own.

The puppy lay down on the porch, which was tinted with the setting sun.

The otherworldly puppy made its debut on the porch.

His appearance was incredibly cute.

“Honya~”

It was so cute that Sophia's face broke into a slack-jawed grin.

“Sophia.”

“…ha”

“I wonder if it can be in a place like this.”

“Ugh”

“You can go back inside if you want.”

“No, no. This puppy could be a target again. I saved him once, I'm responsible for him until the end.”

“…you mean?”

“I'll stay here and protect her.”

Sophia then sat back down on the porch.

This time, Naoto was made to feel relieved by the stubborn Sophia.

Naoto also sat down on the porch.

Two people and one animal.

The wind chime tinkled.
